Is your district looking for a positive way to manage behaviors? Look no further! PBIS is a school-wide approach for reinforcing positive behaviors which includes all students and all staff in all school settings. PBIS establishes clear expectations for students. These expectations are taught and modeled throughout the year and behaviors are reinforced in all school settings. Students who exhibit the expectations are positively acknowledged. Our school even created YouTube videos to help teach expectations.
A matrix, with expectations listed, is posted in each area of the school. Below is the matrix our school district uses:
Our school uses the acronym P.R.I.D.E. to help remember the different school and classroom expectations. The students receive a Cardinal Pride Ticket when they exhibit one or all of these expectations.
P-Problem Solve
R- Respect Others
I- I am Responsible
D- Do Your Best
E- Everyone is Kind
When students receive a Cardinal Ticket, they then get to put a marble into the classroom marble jar. When the marble jar fills up, the class gets a reward. This year my class has had extra recesses, root beer floats, pajama day, extra computer time, and we recently had a scavenger hunt.
